Description
High precision filters such as the Two Line Laser Filter have
many similar applications in aerospace and military industries.
Critical fiber-optic telecommunication components also rely
heavily on these types of filters. Material properties such
as layer thickness, density and refractive index must be
maintained with very tight tolerance for the filters to meet
the design specifications. Coating processes must be
developed such that post exposure to environmental
conditions does not significantly alter the material
properties which might lead to a change in
optical performance.

Optical design is critical to the performance and longevity
of the filter. Selection of materials and layer design can
impact internal stress which determines how the filter will
respond to changes in temperature and humidity. With
all of these restrictions, comprehensive technical expertise
is critical. Filters which meet the strict requirements for
battlefield protection, and telecommunications are
produced by only a handful of companies nationwide.
